Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) new 13-inch 2015 MacBook Pro with retina display and MacBook Air line up, which were up for sale earlier this month, will not support Windows 7 through Boot camp, according to a support page document published on Apple’s website.
For someone who is not familiar with Boot camp, it is a software that enables Mac users to install and use Windows OS on their system.
It seems Apple is shying away from Windows 7, as it has the latest Mac Hardware's release. The company did something similar when the second generation MacBook Air was released in 2010 and it stopped support for Vista and Windows XP through Boot camp.
However, users of Windows 7 can use their operating system on these latest machines through third party virtualization software like Parallels and VMware Fusion.
It was always on the cards that Apple will discontinue support for Windows 7, as there has been a lot of advancement. Windows 7 was released in 2009 and after three years, Windows 8 was released in 2012. Despite being such an old operating system, it is considered to be the most used operating system till date.
Mac users were not happy with Apple’s decision to discontinue Windows 7 in the MacBook Pro and the same response is expected by the users with Apple not supporting Windows 7 on Macs. A lot of users have still not shifted to Windows 8.
However, Microsoft has some good news for the Windows users that it would be offering free upgrade to Windows 10 for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 users. Microsoft’s next-generation operating system is scheduled to be released later this year.
