All rumors and leaks point to the possibility that this would be OnePlus’ year
The folks at OnePlus have a field day when their company’s smartphones are paired with flagship devices from popular brands. The company prides itself by calling its smartphones “Flagship Killer.” The flagship killer hype train started with the OnePlus One and now it’s time for OnePlus 3.
We think OnePlus 3 would surprise people with its specifications once they are announced. For now, the phone is under tight wraps with no official announcement on when we will get to see the OnePlus 3. As to the rest, we leave it to speculation and rumor to drum up the hype, which is what the company feeds on.
The rumors and benchmark leaks paint OnePlus 3 as a powerful device that deserves the title of “flagship killer.” So far, we know the OnePlus flagship has a 5.5-inch display with the exception of OnePlus X. It also houses a a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, the go-to SoC for brand flagships, and 4GB RAM. The 4GB RAM option check marks all the boxes to stand next to current flagships.
A conflicting report states that the OnePlus 3 might come with 6GB of RAM. We, however, think it is not a discrepancy and instead shows what the company might be thinking. The company might be prepping to launch not one, but two flagship killers to take on both mid-range and high-end smartphone brands.
OnePlus motto is #NeverSettle and we think the rumors have it wrong this time. For the company to launch the OnePlus 3 as its flagship killer, it needs to offer more for less and think out of the box. In our version of the OnePlus 3, the smartphone is indeed a flagship killer because it comes with:
- 6GB of RAM
- IP68 certification
- 4,000mAh battery
- a 5.5-inch display with not 1080p, but 2K display capable of 575ppi
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 under the hood
- Fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor, USB Type-C
- A redesigned camera with a dual 16MP camera setup (The way Huawei P9 brags Leica), an 8MP front sensor both carry OIS along with dual-tone flash on the front
- Something on par or better than HTC 10’s BoomSound technology
- A design material shift, continue with the philosophy utilized for OnePlus X
The points listed above are what we think the OnePlus 3 should have at a price of $399 so that on paper it sounds like a flagship killer. Whether it truly becomes a flagship killer will be the result of hands-on testing and reviews.
