The AMD Ryzen 3 3200G Picasso processor is an APU unit. An APU is an AMD chip that packs a graphics card and a CPU on the same piece.
A Chinese forum poster posted an alleged photo of the APU over at the Chiphell forums.
The user claims he has eight Ryzen 3000-series APU samples on his hands and is currently working to put them through different tests.
The upcoming Ryzen 3000-series of APUs
Picasso is the official codename for the Ryzen 300-series mobile and desktop APUs. The American chipmaker launched the mobile H-series in January and, more recently, the Ryzen Pro series.
On the same note, feel free to also check out the 2019 Athlon series, a budget line of desktop CPUs.
AMD Ryzen 3 3200G are desktop chips, and it’s very possible the tech company will present them at Computex 2019 conference on May 27. AMD’s CEO Dr. Lisa Su will deliver the opening keynote on that event.
AMD Ryzen 3200G APU specs
Here’re the known specs of the Ryzen 3 3200G compared to the previous Ryzen 3 2200G:
Boost Clock Speed (GHz)
|PCIe 3.0||Unlocked Multiplier||DRAM||Graphics||Streaming Processors||GPU Base Clock||TDP|
|Ryzen 3 3200G||4 / 4||3.6 / 3.9||?||?||Yes||?||?||?||1250 MHz||?|
|Ryzen 3 2200G||4 / 4||3.5 / 3.7||4||8||Yes||Dual DDR4-2933||Radeon Vega 8||512||1100 MHz||65W|
These units are similar to the standard Ryzen 3000-series of desktop processors. Firstly, the Ryzen 3000-series APUs are based on Zen+ microarchitecture, while AMD fabricates these pieces using the 12nm node.
On the contrary, the Ryzen 3000-series for desktops packs the newer Zen 2 microarchitecture and is produced using the 7nm process node.
Putting it in simpler words, consider the Ryzen 3200G APU is just a 12nm update of the Ryzen 2200G.
The chip probably has four cores, a four-thread configuration, and a higher clock than he Ryzen 2200G. The updated version has a 3.5GHz base clock and a 3.7GHz boost clock.
The Ryzen 3 3200G specs are still unclear
Additionally, we have further specs from TUM_APISAK, a leaker very respected in the hardware community.
He says he found the benchmark of a Ryzen 3 3200G and claims it as a 3.6GHz base clock plus a 3.9GHz boost clock.
It means it has about 2.86 percent and 5.41 percent better clock and boost clock speed than previously expected. Even so, the final clock speeds may vary.
Regarding graphics, the Ryzen 3 3200G is very similar to its ancestor. It will likely have Radeon Vega 8 graphics cards. The Radeon Vega 8 has 512 Streaming Processors.
Previously, the Ryzen 3 2200 G has a GPU with 1,100MHz base clock speed, plus a 1,250MHz boost speed.
