When you send a message, you will see a few checkmarks appear on your Facebook Messenger. Each of these checkmarks is there to assist you and notify you of the location and status of your message.
You can see a blank circle, a check mark inside the circle, a checkmark filled with Blue or Gray color, and a profile icon of the recipient beside the message. Each of these symbols have different meanings.
So, without giving anything away, let’s learn about the different checkmarks on Messenger.
Types of Checkmark on Messenger
Here’s a compilation of the meaning of the various symbols you see next to the message.
- Open Blue Circle: Your message is in the process of sending.
- Checkmark with Blue Circle: Your message is sent.
- Solid Blue with Checkmark: Your message is delivered to the recipient.
- Profile Photo next to the message: Your message is seen by the recipient.
Note: On Messenger Website, the colors for the first three symbols appear in Gray.
Why Can’t I See Checkmark on My Messenger?
If you are using the Messenger app on your iPhone, you won’t see any checkmark symbols for the sending process. However, you will only see the receiver’s profile icon after the message is seen.
After sending the message, you need to click on the message to know the status of the message. When the message is in sending process, after clicking on the text, you will see ‘Sending’ If the message is sent, you will see ‘Sent’ when you tap the text.
Why Isn’t My Message Sent?
If your message is still on the open Blue or Gray circle, it means that the message is still in the sending status. It usually occurs when your network connection is poor. Also, sometimes it happens when Facebook Messenger is having some technical issue.
Why is My Message Sent but Not Delivered?
The checkmark inside the open Blue or Gray circle means the message is sent and is ready to be delivered to the recipient. However, if the recipient is not online, the message will not turn into a checkmark filled with Blue or Gray. So, the transition from sent to delivered depends on the recipient’s availability to get online.
Why is My Message Delivered but Not Seen?
You will see a checkmark filled with Blue or Gray only after the message is delivered to the receiver. Once they see the message, you can see their profile icon on the side of the message.
However, there can be a case when you don’t get the receiver’s profile icon next to the message. It can happen when the recipient has not opened your conversation. It also means that the user may be deliberately ignoring your messages.
Another possible reason is that you are on the recipient’s Restricted accounts list. If that is the case, the receiver can read all your messages from the Restricted accounts section, but you won’t be able to tell as the message remains in a checkmark filled with Blue or Gray.
Why Isn’t My Message Seen?
There is no telling why your messages are not seen. It depends on the recipient’s preference. It is likely that the recipient is busy or intentionally ignoring your messages.
For this, you can check whether your messages are seen or not. Make sure to check the checkmarks next to the message and know its status.
