Exactly as we predicted, NVIDIA has announced its mid-range GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card. The announcement of the new hardware was made at the company’s CES 2019 event on Sunday. The star attraction of the new release is its affordability compared to the (previous) RTX 2070; and of course, the impressive performance it offers.
According to NVIDIA Chief executive Jensen Huang, the GeForce RTX 2060 gaming gear is based on NVIDIA’s Turing GPU architecture for graphics processing, which the company launched last year.
In terms of specifications, the GeForce RTX 2060 comes with a TU106 GPU Core. It’ll feature 1920 CUDA cores, 30 RT cores, 240 Tensor cores, 48 ROPs and 120 TMUs. For clock speeds, it features speeds in the 1680 (Boost) and 1365 MHz (Base) range. And delivers up to 6.5 TFLOPs of computing performance.
Ray tracing performance will peak at 5 Giga Rays per second which is half the performance of the RTX 2080 Ti but twice the performance of its “Maxwell” based predecessor.
For memory, the RTX 2060 comes with 6GB of GDDR6 memory and a 192-bit bus interface – it runs at 14 Gbps. That’s enough memory to deliver up to 336 Gbps bandwidth.
This table holds the full specs of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2060 Card:
|NVIDIA CUDA cores||1920|
|Boost Clock (MHz)||1680|
|Base clock (MHz)||1365|
|Memory speed||14 Gbps|
|Standard memory||6GB GDDR6|
|Memory interface width||192-bit|
|Maximum digital resolution||7680×4320|
|Power connectors||8 pin|
|Graphics card power||160W|
The GeForce RTX 2060 will set you back $349 US. This is expected to be the base price of other custom models. Coming from NVIDIA, this is the cheapest RTX card since the previous release which costs $599.
For performance, with 1080p and 1440p results from Videocardz, the GeForce RTX 2060 clearly outperforms others in the GTX series like GTX 1060, and GTX 1070. Overall, it matches the GTX 1070 Ti in several AAA titles.
The RTX 2060 also performs brilliantly well with regards the ray tracing feature, with GigaRays of 5 GigaRays/s. What this means is the RTX 2060 can efficiently play Battlefield V with Ultra settings and RTX on at 1440p resolution.
NVIDIA confirmed that the RTX 2060 is 60% faster on current titles than prior generation GTX 1060. Generally, it beats the gameplay of GeForce GTX 1070 Ti.
