To identify your AirPods, you can apply three methods. The first is identifying the AirPods model number for each generation. The second is the serial number found in the AirPods or charging case. The last is recognizing the character of the charging case. Let’s check each of them in detail below:
Through Model Number
Every AirPods have a unique model number, like an identity number given by the manufacturer that indicates the features present in a product. You can check and identify the Model number of your AirPods to know which generation they belong to.
Step 1: Locate AirPods Model Number

You can easily locate the model number on the AirPods itself, or you can check it through Settings.
Via AirPods
Each AirPods have a model number printed underside them. You can note this number to know which generation your AirPods belong to.
Via Settings
You can also identify the AirPods model number via Settings. You can do this directly by going to the Bluetooth or General sections.
Before you start, make sure to connect your AirPods to your iPhone via Bluetooth.
- Go to the Settings app.
