Dell stormed the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 with what it calls the “World’s Best Gaming Laptop” with its latest Alienware. Allow us to introduce the factory overclocked Alienware Area-51M Gaming Laptop.
This new Alienware laptop is a sleek but monstrous gaming laptop that is almost entirely upgradeable. It doesn’t come cheap, however. Customers will be able to lay their hands on this shiny rig from January 29, but it will set you back $2,549 at the very minimum. Customers who want lower-priced options would have to wait a few more months.
The outstanding Specs
The Area-51m comes with 9th Gen Intel desktop chips and Nvidia’s new real-time ray-tracing graphics cards. It can be configured with any of Intel Core i7-8700, i7-9700K, up to the 9th generation Core i9-9900K CPU. Those processors can be paired with 64GB of DDR4-2400 memory with four SO-DIMM slots are available.
For storage options, the Area-51m offers a host of storage configurations including RAID0 options. Users have the option of three separate interfaces to add hard drives and SSDs. Customers can install a SATA HDD of up to 1TB. They can also install two NVMe PCIe SSDs each of 1TB.
For ventilation and cooling, the CPU and GPU are arrayed with dual load-balancing heat pipes. The Area-51m also uses Alienware’s Cryo-Tech v2.0 with double intake and double exhaust design. You won’t necessarily need a cooling pad for this.
In terms of display, the Area-51m features a massive 17.3-inch FHD display with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, with variations for G-Sync and Tobii eye tracking. This resolution can be ordered with up to 144Hz options.
According to Alienware, the Area-51m screen will hit 300 nits of brightness. As for the battery, this laptop flaunts a 90 WHr ExpressCharge capable battery that lasts up to 4.5 hours if you’re away from a wall socket for that long. Even the best laptops in the market would struggle to offer such impressive specs.
How about the aesthetics?
The Area-51 is available in two colors – Lunar Light and Dark Side of the Moon. Although this is a desktop replacement laptop and runs on desktop-class processors, it weighs 8.5 pounds. The chassis is made with aluminum alloy, so it’s pretty lightweight for the components packed inside. Some might find it a little too sturdy, but it looks great to us.
This is a gaming PC that uses Alienware’s TactX keyboard which comes with per-key RGB AlienFX lighting. Additionally, there’s an anti-ghosting technology and an N-Key rollover tech.
There are three USB 3.1 ports on the Area-51m; there’s an HDMI 2.0 port, a Thunderbolt 3 port, an Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port and a mini DisplayPort 1.4. However, the laptop is designed with Alienware hump with those ports on the back for easy docking and to better cooling. That hump is illuminated with built-in RGB lighting.
For 2019, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a gaming laptop with such outrageous specs and smashing design. Alienware’s Area-51m is what you can correctly describe as a portable, single-unit, high-end gaming rig.
