OnePlus has confirmed the rumored designs and specifications for its upcoming OnePlus 7T smartphones. The OnePlus 7T is first scheduled to be launched in India, on Thursday, September 26. A separate event has been planned for October 10 in London, where the 7T series will be launched worldwide. But rumors about the two upcoming smartphones (the 7T and the 7T Pro), specifically their designs, have been leaking and floating around for a while now. And now, in an incredible move, the company has actually confirmed these designs and specifications before the official launch.
OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, took to Twitter to share images and a link to a forum where he shared specifications of the upcoming smartphones.

Lau starts off his post with the following message:
“Today, we’re going to do something we’ve never done before: unveil the design of our upcoming flagship first in our community.”
The images shared by Lau show a clear triple camera setup housed in a circular module as expected. The lenses are expected to have a focal length of 17, 26 and 51mm respectively. Although the image of the front screen wasn’t shared, it is widely expected to have a Fluid AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. The phones are also expected to pack the 7nm Snapdragon 855+ chip and the Adreno 640 GPU.
Regarding the build material of the upcoming 7T phones, Lau wrote:
“While we were extremely happy with our matte-frosted glass, we didn’t stop there. We kept exploring, improving, and trying new things. The result? A new smooth matte surface with a brilliant metallic radiance, and we’re excited to be introducing this new finish on our upcoming flagship.”
Besides this, not much is known about the phone. We will have to wait till next week, when the phone officially launches in India.
So Why Have The Launch Event?
Given that the company has now revealed its upcoming smartphone, one might be inclined to ask a certain question. Why have a launch event at all? Why not share the rest of the details too and be done with it. After all, isn’t the whole point of a launch event just to reveal the product for the first time to the world? That has already happened.
First of all, a launch event will actually garner more media and public attention than a simple online reveal. A vast majority of potential smartphone buyers do not follow the day-to-day news from the industry. A launch event on the other hand, would make bigger news and hence reach the targeted audience.
Another reason for OnePlus to have a launch event is the cultural aspect of it. Ever since the beginning, with the launch of the OnePlus One, the company has garnered a good fanbase and following. And they have always placed special emphasis on these events, which it treats like concerts. Having a popular event where it can invite online influencers and media personnel is actually a huge chunk of OnePlus’s marketing strategy.
The launch event is happening next week in India and next month in London. We will keep you updated.
