- Firstly, check your monitor’s maximum refresh rate.
- Now, download and install the CRU tool from the internet.
- Then, visit the downloaded location and open the .exe file.
- Next, choose the monitor you’re using from the monitor selection drop-down.
- Visit the Standard Resolutions section and press the Add button.
- Select your desired resolution and choose the refresh rate one hertz more than the maximum refresh rate supported by your monitor.
- Now, go back to the Standard Resolution and select the category you just created.
- Restart your PC and navigate to Settings > Display > Advanced Display > Display Adapter Properties.
- Move to the Monitor tab and expand the Screen refresh rate drop-down.
- Then, select the refresh rate you just added.
- If the refresh rate supports your monitor, move to the CRU settings again. Create a refresh rate one hertz more than the earlier one and check if it supports your monitor.
- Keep repeating the process until you get a refresh rate your screen doesn’t support. This is the final Hz supported by your monitor.

Disadvantages of Overclocking a Monitor
Overclocking means asking a computer component to run faster than intended. So, it’s certain that there is more energy consumption during the process. Thus, your monitor may produce more heat than usual.
Because of overheating, your monitor may get damaged in the long run. So, if you’re trying to overclock your display, note that this will reduce its lifespan.
