While we wait for official news about the upcoming Sony PlayStation 5, we can only bash on the excitement. Are you with me? What I’m talking about is: we’re looking at the games and projects we can expect for the next-gen console.
We already know we’re getting a certain number of PS5 exclusives. Some are in the works now. For example, it’s very possible The Last of Us Part 2 by Naughty Dog will have a version for both PS4 and PS5.
If you don’t know about that game, take my word it’s one of the best titles outer. It’s a post-apocalyptic setting where nature has taken over the world, humans turn into zombie-like monsters because of a dangerous kind of spores, and a man who lost his daughter develops a new parental relationship with a survivor.
Part 2 will follow the story of Joel and Elli, although it’s still unclear whether or not Joel is alive.
Sony is working on a new original game for PS5
Naughty also created the Uncharted series. And we’re happy to announce Sony just hired James Martincheck, the animator behind Uncharted 4, The Last of Us, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Martincheck had spent the last years working on Rockstar’s latest hit game. He was the led designer for the amazing follows up to Red Dead Redemption.
The developer joins an undisclosed Sony studio as a senior animator just after finishing Read Dead 2 for PlayStation.
Martinchek is said to be working on a game with the same cinematic focus as Naughty Dog’s acclaimed titles. Also, it will have the same feeling as Rockstar’s recent masterpiece.
Maybe, the new game will blend all of those styles together.
What’s even best: the studio working on the new title, yet again, will be Naughty Dog. Or, at least, that’s what we think.
By the Way, Uncharted is celebrating 10 years since the original game. Take a look of the commemorative video down below:
Sony’s San Diego studio
Sony has a -not so secret- studio in San Diego, California. The studio will continue the Uncharted series and, lately, it has been the source of many news. For example, it looks like this secret Sony branch is some kind of Naughty Dog subsidiary.
Senior Game designer Quentin Cobb, from the San Diego branch, tweeted about Martincheck addition:
I’m happy to welcome my good friend James Martinchek to the team as our new Lead Animator! We worked together on The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 back in our Naughty Dog days and he just finished working on Red Dead 2! #Playstation
Martincheck was just one of the various staffers with previous Naughty Dog experience fueling the rumors of Sony and the California studio collaborating on a new game.
And even though many fans pushed Cobb on the Twitter thread, he did not comment on the current project or the studio’s name. However, we’re thinking things are pointing towards Naughty Dog, and, more specifically, to a new original exclusive title for PlayStation 5.
All will be revealed in the next couple of years. Yes, it will take time, but you know the studio puts heart and soul into their projects.
