Could the public finally get its something new from the upcoming The Last of Us Part 2?
Naughty Dog will be holding a media event for the Last of Us Part 2 next week. This event scheduled for September 24 is however a press-only event. The media will reportedly be shown 3 hours of gameplay footage from the highly anticipated game. The footage will however be restricted to them and won’t reach the public. But as it turns out there could be something else planned for the public next month.
In its official Spanish blog, Sony has announced that they will be demonstrating something new from the game next month. Sony will be participating at the Madrid Games Week, between October 3 and October 6. And they will be sharing something new (maybe gameplay footage or even a trailer) from The Last of Us Part 2. Although they have not clarified what it is they will be sharing, it will definitely be something new from/about the game.
Naughty Dog also shared gameplay footage during the GameStop conference in March. It was a private demonstration however and the footages never reached the public. With the same thing expected to happen during next week’s Media event, we can only hope that the public will finally get to see it next month. Sony could possibly be doing a State of Play footage broadcast in Madrid.
The Last of Us: Part 2 Media Event
The media event is taking place in Los Angeles on September 24. September 24 is the Outbreak Day in The Last of Us universe. Here is a tweet from Canadian video game journalist and television presenter Geoff Keighley, showing the invite from Naughty Dog:

New reports claim that attendees will be shown as much as 3 hours of gameplay footage during the event. Daniel Ahmad from Niko Partners made the claim on Twitter.
Looks like media get a 3 hour hands on at the event next week. https://t.co/BNDd65ldtB

The main gameplay for the first part of The Last of Us was about 17 hours long. Given that the media are set to be treated with 3 hours of the sequel, we can assume that The Last of Us Part 2 will be a much longer game.
Neither Naughty Dog nor Sony have so far confirmed anything regarding the release date of the game. The game is widely expected to be coming out in early 2020, with a possible February 2020 release date. Earlier in May, Naughty Dog’s Anthony Newman confirmed via Twitter that they were looking to close the development of the game. So the early 2020 date does make sense. If this is so, we can expect to hear a lot more about this game in the next few months.
Lot of awesome positions open to help us close out this game… I especially want to highlight the Melee Animator position, I guarantee you will be working on some *dope* animations working with my good friend @Leethul 🗡️💀 pic.twitter.com/vmlVkJlfTl

We do know that like the first part, The Last of Us Part 2 will be a PS4 exclusive. We also know that the game will be coming out in four different versions: the ‘Standard edition’, the ‘Special edition’, the ‘Collector’s edition’ and the ‘Ellie edition’. No details have been shared regarding what each of these editions will offer.
Sony first shared the gameplay reveal trailer for the game during E3 2018. You can check it out here:
