What to Look for in a Kid’s Electric Car

Kid’s electric cars have made some huge improvements in recent years. From hardly functional toys to nearly full-fledged vehicles with their own radio, things have changed. When shopping for an electric car for your child there are a few key things to keep in mind.

The most important features we’re going to take a look at are top speed, safety, and battery life.

Top Speed

The speed of the vehicles on our list obviously depends on a few factors. The power of the motors, as well as the number of motors and even the style of the tires, will affect how fast each of these can go on various terrains.

Generally, the vehicles do have a top speed that the motors are capped at and the vehicle mechanically cannot exceed this speed. The fastest vehicle on our list is the power wheels dune racers. It’s rubber tires grip any surface very well and its powerful motors can easily get it up to its top speed of 5 miles per hour.

Surprisingly, the slowest car on the list is actually the Maserati with a meager top speed of 3.1 miles per hour. Both the Mercedes Benz and John Deere models have similar tops speeds around 4.5 miles per hour, but the Mercedes can reach that speed more reliably with its six powerful motors.

Safety

All of them we looked at are safe for kids. Some are safer than others though. One of the important features to look for when considering safety is a seatbelt, just like a real car. Both the Maserati and the Mercedes feature seat belts with the Mercedes model sporting a harness style seat belt for extra safety.

Another great safety feature is a remote control that allows parents to control the car. This helps ensure that if your child is about to drive into something or is going a little too fast you have the power to slow them down or help them steer in a safe direction.

Both the Maserati and Mercedes take the cake for this again, making either one of them the hands down best electric kid’s car for safety.

Battery Life

Most of these on this list have large batteries that will last for about an hour and take generally 20 or so hours to charge. The exception to this rule is the Power Wheels dune racer.

The dune racer has a battery that takes about 18 hours to charge but lasts all day by most accounts. Its motors are also super powerful, as we mentioned, letting it go super fast.
