Best Laptop Cooling Pad

There’s nothing more annoying than watching your entire laptop slow down because the CPU got too hot. Whether you’re trying to watch a movie on Netflix or edit a video on your MacBook, an overheating laptop is a big problem. The best laptop cooling pad is the solution.

For one thing, a cooling pad will help your overworked fan by forcing cool, fresh air up into the laptop. If your vents are clogged with dust, then you’ll want to clear those out first. But it isn’t only useful for cooling your laptop, it’s also a great platform for using your computer on your lap. The best pad will be light enough to use on your lap, powerful enough to keep your laptop cool, and quiet enough to use comfortably.

There are a lot of cooling pads out there. Finding a good one from among the bad can be a matter of hit or miss. Thankfully we sorted out the good from the bad.

Havit HV-F2056  Laptop Cooler

Havit HV-F2056 Laptop Cooler

During our review, we found that the Havit HV-F2056 is the best you can buy. We found it is extremely quiet and can drop the temperature of a laptop by ten degrees within a minute. The Havit is slim and ultra-portable yet includes three ultra-quiet fans illuminated with blue LED lights. It’s designed to be ergonomic, so whether you keep it on a desk or on your lap, it will be comfortable to use.

The Bottom Line

The Havit HF-F2056 is the best pad out right now. Although the lack of USB-type C doesn’t make this future-proof, currently it’s a great cooling pad.

Pros:

  • Ultra-light
  • Ergonomic design
  • Super-quiet fans
  • Extra USB port
Cons:

  • No USB Type-C port (adapter required)
  • LED lights are too bright in a dark room

TeckNet Laptop Chill Pad

The second-best laptop cooler we reviewed was the TeckNet Laptop Chill Pad. This was a close race because this slim, portable cooling pad is just as good as the Havit. Three fans with soft LED lighting and five USB ports means you can power your fans but also plug in a bunch of other accessories, as well. It’s quiet, and works, although it’s a little too high off the surface to be comfortable on the lap. Also, there’s a lack of rubber grips so the laptop slides around when you move.

TeckNet Laptop Chill Pad

Pros:

  • Slim and portable
  • Big fans keep air flowing through your laptop
  • Plenty of USB ports
  • Quiet
Cons:

  • No grips to hold your laptop in place
  • No USB Type-C
  • A little too high

The Bottom Line

We like the TeckNet Chill Pad a lot thanks to its cool look, quiet operation and ability to actually cool down our laptops. At the same time, the lack of grips to hold the laptop steady, and the awkward height of it, keeps the Chill Pad in second place and not first.

iMBAPrice Laptop Cooler

iMBAPrice Laptop Cooler

Third on our list is the iMBAPrice Laptop Cooler. We loved this pad because it has an industrial design, anti-slip rubber, its own power source, and can its height and tilt can be adjusted. The Laptop Cooler cools down anything you put on it. Those five fans do their job very well, although we wish this thing could be a little quieter.

Pros:

  • Industrial design
  • Five fans
  • Adjustable height and tilt
  • Rubber grips
  • Its own power source
Cons:

  • Noisier than some other models
  • Big and heavy

The Bottom Line

Because the Laptop Cooler is big, heavy, and noisy, it’s not the top choice. However, thanks to its design, and that great power cord, it comes in as the third best cooling pad you can buy right now.

TekNet N12 Ultra-Slim Notebook Cooler

TekNet N12 Ultra Slim Notebook Cooler

Next is another TekNet cooling pad. This time it’s the two-fan, ultra-slim TekNet N12. At first glance, you might think this is a stereo speaker. That’s because the two fans are massive and set side-by-side and covered in a wire mesh. We found the blue LED lighting pleasant to work with, and the fans are very quiet. However, if you apply any pressure on the wire mesh cover, it will warp and catch on the fans. Also, like other TekNet cooling pads, there are no rubber grips to stop it from sliding around.

Pros:

  • Light and portable
  • Very quiet
  • Cool look
Cons:

  • Weak wire mesh cover interferes with fans
  • No rubber grips

The Bottom Line

If you need a budget-friendly cooler but still want something that works, the N12 is for you. Make no mistake, this pad does its job and keeps laptops cool. We just don’t think it places first because of that weak wire mesh.

Rosewill Gaming Laptop Cooler

Rosewill Gaming Laptop Cooler

Fifth is the Rosewill gaming laptop cooler. This pad has a serious alien look to it. We haven’t seen any other cooling pads that look like a gaming laptop cooler and can perform as well. We loved that we can control all five fans with six different speed settings. Also, there’s an LCD display and light blue LED lighting to add to the space-age look. We found the build quality to be very good, and it does its job of keeping GPUs at a manageable temperature. However, the power cord is way too short for our liking.

Pros:

  • Sci-fi design
  • Six fan speeds
  • LCD touchscreen control panel
Cons:

  • Short power cord

The Bottom Line

Although not the best, the Rosewill gaming laptop cooler is a decent cooling pad. We like the build quality and the five fans, but if you need more than four feet for the power cord, you may want to avoid it.

Mobility Pad

Mobility Laptop Cooling Pad

The next one we chose was the Mobility cooling pad. This is a four-fan cooler, and each fan is illuminated by soft red LED lights. We loved how relaxing the pad was to use! We found that the pad does a fantastic job cooling down any size laptop, whether it’s a 12-inch productivity machine or a 17-inch gaming laptop. Plus, the adjustable back stand is a great help for finding the right height. We will admit that the build quality is a little plasticky and feels cheap.

Pros:

  • Nice red LED lighting
  • Works with any size laptop
  • Adjustable stand
Cons:

  • Cheap build quality
  • Runs louder than most cooling pads

The Bottom Line

Although lightweight, user-friendly, and looks nice, the Mobility cooling pad comes off feeling rather cheap. Still, it’s a decent piece of hardware and gets the job done.

KLIM Pro

Seventh on our list is the KLIM Pro laptop cooling pad. KLIM claims to the be top cooling pad manufacturer in Europe. They created the Pro cooling pad for professionals and threw in two massive 140 mm fans lit up in blue LED lights. The pad looks like it has jet engine fans, which we really enjoy. It’s also the lightest pad we reviewed, at less than one pound.

KLIM Pro Laptop Cooling Pad

We learned that the fans are super quiet, and the pad does a great job of cooling down most laptops. However, if you’re a gamer, this pad probably won’t do the job for you.

Pros:

  • Very light
  • Big fans look great
  • Super quiet operation
  • Keeps most professional machines cool
Cons:

  • Not strong enough for gaming laptops
  • Not too durable and breaks easily

The Bottom Line

If you’re a professional who requires a laptop for work, the KLIM Pro is for you. It’s lightweight, works well, and is very quiet. But, if you’re a gamer, or you do GPU-intensive work, then you’ll want to look elsewhere.

Vanble 5 Fans Gaming

Vanble 5 Fans Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad

The Vanble 5 Fans gaming laptop cooling pad is one of our favorites. This beast has five fans lit in red LED under a strong metal mesh surface. But best of all, it looks like something from a superhero movie, with angles and edges galore. We found that the Vanble does a great job of keeping a core nice and cool, and motherboard idling temperatures remain stable. We didn’t like that it’s a little too small for any laptop over 15 inches.

Pros:

  • Great at core cooling
  • Very quiet
  • Nice red LED lighting
  • Innovative design
  • Good build quality
Cons:

  • Too small for most gaming laptops
  • Only has two tilt angles

The Bottom Line

Gamers will love the Vanble, especially because it looks so great. That mesh surface is strong and sturdy. Unfortunately, if you’re gaming with a 15-inch laptop or larger, this cooling pad will be too small for you.

Wsky Laptop Cooler

Ninth on the list is the Wsky laptop cooler. Here we have a modern-looking pad with four corner fans and a large “super strong wind” center fan. This arrangement ensures that every laptop vent gets air flowing through it. Soft blue LED lighting makes it look great in dark rooms.

Wsky Laptop Cooler

We love that this is a quiet, smooth-operating cooling pad. However, that’s where the good ends. The Wsky has low-powered fans that don’t push air hard enough. For a Mac or a basic work computer it will do the job, but for watching movies, playing games, or editing video, it’s not going to cut it.

Pros:

  • Beautiful-looking
  • Very quiet and smooth
Cons:

  • Underpowered
  • Doesn’t provide enough cooling for advanced laptops

The Bottom Line

Wsky looks great, and the build quality is excellent. And although it isn’t powerful enough to cool a gaming laptop, it’s perfect for something like a MacBook, provided you’re not working on graphics.

Targus Lap Chill Mat

Finally, the Targus Lap Chill Mat rounds out the list of the best cooling pad today. The Lap Chill Mat is unique in that it’s the only one not trying to look high-tech. It’s basically a grey neoprene slab with a metal mesh on the front. Inside are two fans. There are no lights, and no bells or whistles.  We found this pad to be comfortable to hold on the lap, perhaps more so than any other cooling pad. Also, it works at cooling down laptops.

Targus Lap Chill Mat
However, it’s small, and even a 15-inch laptop will have trouble fitting on the Lap Chill Mat.

Pros:

  • Simple and minimalist
  • Comfortable neoprene material
  • Perfect for sitting a laptop on your lap
  • Cooling works well
Cons:

  • Too small for serious laptops
  • Uninspired design

The Bottom Line

The Targus Lap Chill mat is another one of those cooling mats that we love. It looks plain, and that makes it unique. It works great at cooling computers, and it feels nice when on your lap. We just wish that it was a little bigger.

Buyer’s Guide

Choosing the best cooling pad often comes down to personal taste. Every pad we reviewed here works well, although the Havit HV-F2056 is the best you can get. But in most cases, a mix of personal need (office laptop vs gaming laptop), style (bright LED lights vs minimalist), and price will all come in to play.

Why should I use a laptop cooling pad?

Any time you put your laptop on a flat surface, you should use a cooling pad. Laptops don’t have the ability to keep their core cool enough with the demands we put on them. Even watching a YouTube video can overheat your computer. And if you use your laptop in bed or on a sofa, you definitely need one. It will prolong the life of your computer.

What should I look for?

Like we said earlier, there’s a lot of choice out there, but not all are equal. You need to make sure that your cooling pad is big enough for your laptop, is quiet, has adjustable height, and enough fans to actually keep your laptop cool. We found ten of the best for you.

The Last Word

Finding a cooling pad isn’t hard. Finding the best laptop cooling pad is, but it just became a little easier for you now that we’ve had a good look at what’s out there, and what you should buy. The Havit HV-F2056 is the best out there, although the TeckNet Laptop Chill Pad runs a very close second.
